Playa del Carmen is situated about 65 Km south of Cancun, Mexico on the Mayan Riviera.

The Mayan Riviera

The Atlantic coastal region on the extreme east of the Yucatan Peninsula of Quintana Roo state of Mexico is referred to as the Mayan Riviera (stretching from Punta Brava just south of the Cancun International Airport to Punta Allen, just south of Tulum).  One of the highlights is the Great Mayan Reef with is the largest coral reef in the Western Hemisphere. The region is a fascinating destination with tropical beaches, ancient ruins, jungle with abundant marine and wildlife, and the mystery of interesting folklore and culture.  The Mayan culture is still alive and thriving in this part of Mexico.  All over the area are small towns and pueblos for you to visit.
